Modern Phoenix Week 2019 + Tour of Ralph Haver Homes
Lorna House
Neighborhood: Starlite VistaArchitect: Ralph Haver AIA
Remodel: Shawn Kaffer
Year: 1954
Social: @sodapopvintageaz @atomicagemodern
Purchased from an original owner who had lived there since the 1950s, The Lorna House was extensively remodeled by architect Shawn Kaffer in 2004. Much of the compatible exterior architecture was added at that time, including new front walkway, more block work and back patio enhancements. Lorna enlarged the great room long ago by removing one wall of a bedroom near the entrance. Now it creates a small room within a room. Look up and note the unusual interior clerestory windows that separate the bedrooms. It’s also hard to miss the new wood slats that Kaffer added to the ceiling. The home went under another refresh by the current owners in 2014. Deep setbacks and a bucolic feel along 15th Avenue make this neighborhood desirable.
