By Haver, Nunn & Jensen with designer Jim Salter at the helm

The First Federal Savings and Loan in Scottsdale built by Ralph HaverThis remarkable bank on the site of the present-day Scottsdale Fashion Square shopping mall earned an NSID Award for Excellence of Design and AIA Award of Merit for 1963. The external tile is fabled to have been an intense hue of indigo. The First Federal Savings and Loan in Scottsdale built by Ralph HaverThe building's roof structure was a grid of hyperbolic paraboloids supported by concrete columns. A thin strip of clerestory windows ran beneath the gables, providing indirect light to the interior. Note the form of the custom freestanding personal banking stations that echoed the dendriform columns surrounding them. It was demolished with the widening of Goldwater Boulevard at Scottsdale Road in the early 1990s. The Ralph Haver Archive
